With John Cena’s Peacemaker now an official part of the DC Universe, should fans expect other characters from James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe movie, The Suicide Squad, to crossover into canon?

While promoting Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn was asked about two of those characters specifically, and offered a very different answer for each. First up, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who survived 2016 critically panned Suicide Squad to reprise the role in 2020’s Birds of Prey and Gunn’s well-received The Suicide Squad, released during the pandemic in 2021.

Entertainment Weekly asked the DC Studios co-CEO whether he’s planning for a new Harley Quinn, or whether Robbie will return to play the character. "That will be revealed down the line," he replied, not giving much away.

Gunn gave a stronger answer on the prospect of Idris Elba returning as Robert DuBois / Bloodsport, however, suggesting he’s trying to work out a way for the character to make a comeback in the DCU.

"I definitely am always looking for a place to put Bloodsport and figuring that out," Gunn said. "So we'll see what happens."

As it stands, Peacemaker is flying the DCEU flag solo within the DCU. Indeed, Gunn has plenty to think about as he plots out Chapter One, Gods & Monsters. He’s working on the DCU’s Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, and has yet to announce who will play Batman (it won’t be Robert Pattinson, who is Batman in Matt Reeves’ Epic Crime Saga). Could Robbie return as Quinn for The Brave and the Bold, whenever it comes out?

In the shorter term, Supergirl and Clayface come out in 2026, with a Wonder Woman and the next movie in the Superman Saga also in the works.
